Personalised glucose therapy: glucose targets in critically ill patients with pre-existing poorly controlled type 2 diabetes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction In patients without pre-existing diabetes, hyperglycaemia during critical illness is associated with adverse outcomes. However, recent observational data suggest that in patients with pre-existing poorly controlled type 2 diabetes (defined as an HbA1c ≥7%) prior to their acute illness, targeting glucose concentrations < 10mmol/l is associated with harm [1]. Accordingly a higher glucose target may benefit these patients.

Consensus recommendations for the management of hyperglycaemia in critically ill patients in the Indian setting.
Hyperglycaemia occurs frequently in critically-ill patients. Not only does it occur among patients with pre-existing diabetes mellitus but elevated blood glucose values during an acute illness can also be seen in previously glucose-tolerant individuals (stress hyperglycaemia). Numerous observational studies have shown an increase in morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients with hyperg...
متن کاملIntensive insulin therapy in critically ill hospitalized patients: making it safe and effective.
Intensive insulin therapy (IIT) for hyperglycemia in critically ill patients has become a standard practice. Target levels for glycemia have fluctuated since 2000, as evidence initially indicated that tight glycemic control to so-called normoglycemia (80-110 mg/dl) leads to the lowest morbidity and mortality without hypoglycemic complications. Subsequent studies have demonstrated minimal clinic...

Background: To evaluate the efficacy of adding the glutazone to maximum dose of sulfonylurea and metformin in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. Methods: Ninety six patients with type 2 diabetes who had failed medical therapy with maximal-dosage of metformin and glibenclamide received glutazone. Fasting blood sugar (FBS), 2 hours postprandial (2hpp) glucose, hemoglobin A1C, chol...

متن کاملExogenous glucagon-like peptide-1 attenuates the glycaemic response to postpyloric nutrient infusion in critically ill patients with type-2 diabetes
INTRODUCTION Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) attenuates the glycaemic response to small intestinal nutrient infusion in stress-induced hyperglycaemia and reduces fasting glucose concentrations in critically ill patients with type-2 diabetes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of acute administration of GLP-1 on the glycaemic response to small intestinal nutrient infusion in...
